Ed Atkins

6.30pm / Tuesday 26 March Irish Film Institute - 6 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, Dublin. Click here to book tickets.

The IFI and Experimental Film Club with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios present a programme of films by visual artist Ed Atkins (U.K.), curated by Isobel Harbison.

Atkins makes high-definition digital video installations, guided by passages of his experimental writing. Influenced by the critical strategies of early structuralist filmmakers like Hollis Frampton and Stan Brakhage, the visceral effects of pieces by musicians such as Throbbing Gristle, the culture and aesthetics of video gaming, the thrills of the multiplex, and the literary conceits of writers like Dennis Cooper, Atkins’ works are loud and visceral and present a new mode of avant-garde digital filmmaking. This screening of his recent videos coincides with Atkins’ Or tears, of course, a new video installation for his first solo exhibition in Ireland at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin.
After the screening, there will be a short Q&A between the artist and the exhibition’s curator Isobel Harbison.
